Opioids and Their Effects
This is number five in our series, The Effects of Opioids.
The most popular of these opioids are:
- OxyContin
- Percocet
- Demerol
- Dilaudid
The withdrawal symptoms of these drugs are:
- Restlessness
- Muscle and Bone Pain
- Insomnia
- Diarrhea
- Vomiting
- Cold Flashes
As with other drugs, the opioids burn up an enormous amount of vitamins and minerals in the body, especially calcium and magnesium. This accounts for the extreme restlessness, muscle and bone pain when the use is stopped.
By the way, opioids are a much tougher category of drugs to get a person through withdrawal from them. Normally if a person comes to Narconon to get withdrawn from drugs, we do it naturally. With these drugs, the very first thing that is needed is a medical withdrawal, which lasts anywhere from five to ten days. Then they come in to our regular withdrawal program to further their withdrawal from the drug.
So it’s kind of like the double whammy. These drugs are much more addictive than your normal street drugs.
Don’t miss number six in our series, Depressants.
